BIOGRAPHY

In the early 2000s, the Hungarian black metal scene was at its peak. It featured tribal, necro, gothic, fast & brutal. Scythe wanted to create something more progressive and dramatic.…

The band was initially formed in the underground pubs and parties of Budapest. As most black metal bands at this time, they had to overcome the difficulties of finding a fast & precise drummer (see more in the Legend of Scythe; full version coming soon!). After two years of existence, they released their first album. “The Icon of Malformed Daintiness”, was recorded in october of 2001 in the well known Yellow Studio, Budapest.

With these songs they started to perform at the death/black metal hotspots of Budapest, like the Voodoo club & Freeport. Future started to look bright, as the album got a positive review in Metal Hammer, which was Hungary’s number one metal magazine in the early 2000s. Printed media was still king at this time, but their debut material also reached some online forums & magazines. In 2004, they got immortalized in the Encyclopedia Metalium

Though the band never officially dismantled, they stopped working together in 2004...

Thirteen years later, Scythe decided to rework the old songs, and put out all the previously unreleased material. Family, work and other responsibilities did not allow all the members to take part in the resurrection, but two of them kept on working.

Their mission is both tho erect a monument for the mighty good times of this era, and also to present the primordial spirit of black metal in a modern light voicing it with crisp sound.

The reworked versions of the Icon-tracks, will be released in the first months of 2019, but Erik & Gregory are also working on fresh compositions. Follow their latest releases and studio reports on Youtube, Facebook, Bandcamp and Instagram.
