BIOGRAPHY

Conan’s First Date was formed out of the ashes of Reflecting Me and Slowdown with the intention to bring the roofs of places down. High energy, monstrous sound. The band was founded in the city of Szentendre in late 2008 and was ultimately disbanded in 2015.

After 10 years of silence, Conan's members return in the form of a studio project honoring the legacy that they left behind a decade ago. For their silent return, they chose to release "Ambush", a song that was stuck in the pipelines since 2011. They took this promising demo and completely transformed it into a piece that summons the mood of Effigies, their second EP, with the sound of 2026.

The boys of Conan merge a wide landscape of influences that reach beyond heavy metal. Always chasing the balance between modern and dark, catchy and brutal, progressive and traditional. They combine death, thrash, metalcore, sludge, and stoner rock. On top of this hardened foundation, they often build orchestral arrangements, tribal ensembles, or electronic soundscapes to fully flesh out the worlds in which the songs live.

All releases of Conan’s First Date were self-produced. Recorded and mixed at RX studio, owned by Erik Vándor, the guitarist of the band. They eventually made a noticeable impact on the Hungarian underground, providing a sound that was (...and still is) missing from the scene.

Throughout their career, the band was represented by Powerground Management, which supplied local, but widely successful bands at the time, such as Watch My Dying, Slytract, or Cadaveres. Heavymetal.hu, the most frequented Hungarian metal webzine of the late 2000's labeled CFD as "one of the biggest surprises of 2009", while other music journalists concordantly agreed that this shouldn’t stay inside the country. Conan should go and conquer… and they did.

Conan's First Date had played all the major underground stages in Budapest and Szentendre. In 2011, they started exploring neighboring European countries, including Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Their performance was explosive and commanding, sometimes verging on the absurd, but always delivering a blast out party.

The members of CFD have always had a knack for satire, which is often present in their video material. Fans universally agree that the behind-the-scenes series lives on its own planet. Erik, Márton, and Greg stayed active in the music (and movie) scene and are featured in various bands and musical projects currently. Nikosz / a.k.a. Harry S. / stopped playing the drums and ultimately left the music industry.  Levi, the second drummer of CFD continued to play drums in Dusty Chopper, a true southern stoner metal band. Szabi, the second bass player of the band also kept on playing the bass in the modern metal band called Noise Fusion.

Martin / a.k.a. Odeur Headburn / created a synthwave project, called Fetishstar, and an ambient project, called Spectreglow. He sang for the djent-metalcore band, Absent Distance, and plays guitar in the post-black band, Hænesy. Erik / a.k.a. O'Dabas / went on to produce, compose, record, and mix in RX Studio for local bands, commercials, and video games. He plays guitar in Odion, Gore Thrower, and drums in Hetumoger. Greg / a.k.a. Bury / kept up with film editing and acting, both of which he tried first during the music video projects of CFD. He created OCTA, a prog metal project featuring influences from film score, glitch-hop, and ethno music. He and Erik write and record music for the gothic black metal project, Scythe.
